Pop Tarts Thankful House and $100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Pop-Tarts®.

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

When Pop-Tarts® so graciously sent me some samples of their limited edition Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts I knew my kids would enjoy making something fun with them.
Actually....I think my kids would have been pleased as punch if I would have agreed to let them eat these Pop-Tarts® round the clock until
each
box
was
gone.

They're funny that way.
When they know what they like,
they just want it...
and want it....
and want it!

Does anyone else have that problem?
Your kids never do that!!!!????
Well my goodness,
sounds like you better give me some advice then,
won't you?

I was asked by the good folks at Pop-Tarts®
to create a recipe using these very Pop-Tarts®

I was in the mood for a little crafty cooking fun so my kids and I made these cute little.....

Thankful Houses.

What makes them thankful?

Well, while we were building and constructing and candy sampling and decorating, we chatted about the things we were thankful for.
Then we wrote the things down on some little tags, put the tags on some toothpicks and stuck them all around the little houses.
It was pretty cute to see the things they came up with.

"Light Saber"
and
"Candy"
were both represented.
(both extremely loved and extremely important...)
We had a fun time!
I think you will too!
If you would like a chance to win
$100 Visa Gift Card from  BlogHer,

most grateful for this November.

 Pop-Tarts® Thankful House
Time: 2 hours
Yield: 2 houses
Recipe from Jamie Cooks It Up!
PRINT RECIPE

Royal Icing:
4 C powdered sugar
3 large egg whites
1/2 t cream of tartar

candy for decorating

toothpick
labels
mini marshmallows

1. Place all ingredients for the Royal Icing in your stand mixer or in a large mixing bowl.
2. Stir the mixture around just a bit to incorporate.
3. Mix on medium high, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally to be sure all of the powdered sugar gets incorporated.

4. Continue to mix on high for 7 - 10 minutes. The icing should hold a peak when it is ready.

5. Put the icing into 3 quart sized Ziploc bags. Tie the top with a twist tie, clip a little hole in one of the corners and you are good to go.  Keeping the icing in a ziploc bag really helps to keep it moist.

6. Assemble the walls of your house as pictured above.

7. Cut 2 triangles out to help hold your pitched roof.

8. Carefully place the triangles and the roof on. Slather the edges up with icing. You will need some extra hands to help you hold it up for a couple of minutes, until the icing sets. This icing is really quite magical and sets up very quickly. If your roof doesn't meet at the top, just put pipe some icing in the crack to help seal it up.

9. Decorate your house as desired.
10. Write little thankful tags, stick them on a toothpick and place them around your house. The toothpicks need to be stuck into a marshmallow, or candy pumpkin. Then secure the marshmallow, or pumpkin with some icing.

Enjoy!

  4. I am thankful for my amazing husband who is sacrificing this year and very precious family time, while stationed in Kuwait with the United State Army National Guard. It is a huge honor and commitment on his/our behalf. I could not be more proud of him and all the men and women who serve our country. Though he misses his babies (all 4 of them 5 yr old twins, 3 yr old and 11 month old) and myself... and we miss him terribly. We are very thankful for this opportunity. We pray and continue to ask for prayers for all of our service members and their families.
We also ask you all to remember to add them to your lists of what you are Thankful for this Thanksgiving and Christmas as you are spending time with your loved ones.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all...

  5. I am thankful for the freedom I enjoy each day. I am grateful for the children in my life who make me smile and complete my life. I am grateful for the chance I have to make a difference each day in the community I live in. I am grateful for my friends and family who have made sacrifices the past few years to help me succeed in grad school. Last I am grateful each day for the small things I often take for granted (reading, working, seeing, laughing, and loving). Thanks for reminding me of what I am grateful for!

  6. I am Thankful for such a wonderful mother! I'm 38 which makes my mom 59. In her 59 yrs she has dealt with abuse, physically and mentally, and truimphed through it! She has raised 2 kids alone on minimum wage and kept our home! She then married a wonderful man the second time around. Who brought his 2 kids and she treated them as her own. She then found out at the age of 4 that I had Rhuematoid arthritis. And she was in and out of The hospital with me and my many breaks never leaving me once. In the mean time she found out she has MS and still deals with it today. My mothers parents, my grandparents, are getting older and she runs them to doc appts, and helps take care of them. I am SO Thankful for my Mom and ALL ahe does for me, my family, my Grandparents, oh yeah and she still works 30 hrs a week!
    Thanks Mom!!

  7. I am most grateful this year for the miracle in my life that is my little son and for adoption, which has made us a family. After years of sorrow and pain, through infertility and trying to become a mother, the joy of having him in my life is far sweeter than I could ever have imagined!

I met our tiny miracle when he was just three weeks old, and he took my heart as his own from that first glance! I was blessed and honored to be his foster mother until the time we were able to adopt him and make him ours forever.

My husband and I first became a family ten years ago in May. On the exact same day, 10 years later, we were able to go to court and become a family of three. I am grateful for my family and the way that we came to be just that!!!

  8. That is so adorable!! In my daughter's school last year we did Thankful Trees.

This year I am thankful for:
Having a roof over our heads and food on the table.

My husband has a good, but stressful job.

My daughter's school, is just fantastic.

My niece gave birth to a very healthy little girl.

My neighborhood, it is like an old fashion neighbhorhood where every knows each other, kids play in the street, neighbors socialize with each other.

I am thankful also for the fact that my kitchen fridge didn't actually die a few weeks ago. Just didn't realize that bags were covering the vents in the freezer part and didn't allow cold air in to the fridge part...whewwww.....

I could go on and on....

  38. This Thanksgiving I am thankful for many things that center around family. After spending 22 years in Texas away from family, we have had the wonderful opportunity to move back "home"to Utah. Last year Thanksgiving was heartbreaking as I watched my sweet mother experience heart surgery, my oldest son struggle with drug addiction, and my husband struggle with a job loss. It seemed like things could not get any worse, especially since my mother and son lived in Utah... I was so far away. I am thankful right now to be living in the same state as my mother (who has recovered beautifully except for memory loss), live in the same house as my son (who still struggles with his addictions but our family is together and supporting him through his hopeful recovery), and to have my husband employed. Although I am living in a rental home with most of my things boxed up,my family is "together" and really... what more does one need?

But while it has been hard, I have learned to appreciate him more than I ever thought was possible. My love for him has grown and I appreciate how hard he works and the sacrifices he makes for our family. So this month my heart is filled to overflowing with gratitude for Jeremy. In this life we get bogged down with what we want and sometimes don't get; that we forget all of the many things we are thankful for. I could continue forever, however I do not want to bore you. teresalbriggs@gmail.com

  112. We just had a new addition to our family, and after 28 hours of labor to get her here, I'm most grateful for two healthy, beautiful little girls! I'm also grateful for a husband that checks on me at least three times a day to make sure I'm surviving with these two kids, in the middle of winter, in Utah valley ;) Yes, we are surviving - what more can a girl ask for?

  122. I am new to your blog. I found it about 3 weeks ago. My two kids and I have really enjoyed making your recipes. We look forward to what you have next. I am most grateful for my family. My husband and I have had several struggles having children with a very recent loss of our baby girl. I look at my two kids we have now and see them as little angles that made it to this earth. I have an amazing husband who has never given up on me and has always been there to dry my tears. Without my family I wouldn't be the person I am today. We have hope that someday our dreams of having more children will be granted but until them we will love the little ones we have to pieces.

  159. I am thankful for life in general and the many opportunities offered to me throughout the years along with the choice to take them or not. I am thankful to have been born to an industrious country with so much available to it's citizens. I am thankful for education and the ease of gaining an education. I am extremly thankful for my strong and always caring mother who recently finished chemo-therapy for breast cancer. I am thankful for modern technology, especially that which is designed to save lives. I am thankful my grandfather is finally at peace, despite my personal sadness for the situation. I am thankful for those who take the time to do good deeds no matter how simple or difficult the task may be, helping a stranded motorist, helping a lost child, donating blood, protecting children, protecting a community, protecting the country, etcetera.

But, the thing in my life that I am the MOST thankful for is my children. They are the lights of my life, my pride and joy, and I am thankful for the ability to turn simple moments into wonderful memories we will cherish for a lifetime.
